Complex Care Curriculum: Enteric Feeding Tubes

    Abstract

This learning module was developed to provide pediatricians with educational materials related to the medically complex child with feeding tubes. The module is part of the Complex Care Curriculum at Children's National Medical Center with the goal of improving care for the medically complex child. The learning module is presented as a PowerPoint show for individual self-study and is approximately 45 minutes in length. The learner should first complete the pretest questions and then review the PowerPoint slides and any other reference materials provided. The learner finishes the activity by taking the posttest. After completion of this module, the learner should be able to discuss the indications for placement of feeding tubes, compare and contrast the different types of feeding tubes, and evaluate common problems and complications of feeding tubes, including tube dislodgement.
