Mental Health Collection
In response to calls from the White House and the community to further the National Dialogue on Mental Health, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), in partnership with the American Psychological Association (APA) is calling for individuals in the health care community to submit educational resources on mental health for inclusion in a new mental health section of the AAMC MedEdPORTAL’s iCollaborative, a publicly available and free resource. These materials will equip current health care providers and individuals teaching tomorrow’s providers with the knowledge they need to improve mental health screenings and early identification of mental health problems, expand awareness in their communities about mental health in order to reduce stigma, and better integrate mental health and physical health care.
iCollaborative currently includes materials on mental health such as:
- Creating Medical Homes: Integrating Behavioral Health Services Into a Residency Training Pediatric Primary Care Clinic
A program that jointly trains both pediatric and mental health providers in an integrated care model, where children receive comprehensive services that include timely mental health care “right here, right now.”
- Mental Health Practice
Explore issues regarding mental health. Learn how to distinguish between mental illness and mental health using community resources.
- Suicide Facts for Primary Care Providers
Educating military families about mental health and the need for care for depression and stress can assist in help seeking and the care of service members.
The AAMC and APA are committed to providing iCollaborative as an open and free service dedicated to promoting opportunities to share and collaborate on new and innovative resources, approaches, and strategies spanning health care education, delivery, and research.
iCollaborative seeks resources designed to support health care providers with the education and tools needed to deliver comprehensive mental health care.
Resources may focus on:
- Anxiety Disorders
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Bipolar Disorder
- Borderline Personality Disorder
- Suicide Prevention
