Abstract

This resource is an online course demo to provide dental students with fundamental didactic and technical knowledge to begin preclinical skill development for full crown preparations. This course was developed by Ronald Kaiser and Heiko Spallek at Temple University, School of Dentistry. This crown preparation course for predoctoral students uses state-of-the-art multimedia technologies. Students are able to directly manipulate three-dimensional models of various crown preparation stages. This can be used without any restrictions with any browser as long as the 3 plugins are installed as outlined on http://www.dental.pitt.edu/informatics/crownprep/index.php

Educational Objectives

The course objective is to provide dental students with fundamental didactic and technical knowledge to begin preclinical skill development for full crown preparations. The course incorporates a variety of interactive features including images which allow students to examine the dimensions and contours of the burs in comparison to the dimensions and the shape of the crown preparation. QuickDraw 3D allows the direct manipulation of 3D graphical models by the users.
