This web-based tutorial on Full Crown Preparation is designed to prepare students prior to using Dental Simulation Technology (DentSim), an advanced virtual-based technology in tooth preparation in dentistry. The content has two parts: the first part provides learners the conceptual understanding of the Principles of Crown Preparation as prescribed by the doctrines of the DentSim module; the second part demonstrates the step by step procedures in the preparation of tooth number 19 in receiving a Full Crown. The entire module is about thirty minutes long. It contains illustrations and photos that reinforce the textual presentation of the concepts. At the end of the session, learners have the opportunity to test themselves and review the correct answers using the self-assessment quiz that is part of the module.

Effectiveness and Significance
The tutorial was developed using the Adobe Captivate 3 software. The software was pilot tested to ten dental students prior to implementation. Except for minor navigational concerns and grammatical errors in the content, the feedback was very positive. Currently, the web-based tutorial is being used by 200 first and second year students in an elective course in Advance Simulation at the University of Minnesota. It is also being used by 12 foreign-trained dentists in the Advance Standing program by the School of Dentistry, University of Minnesota.
Special Implementation Guidelines or Requirements
This tutorial is best utilized as an advance organizer for dental students prior to using the DentSim. However, it can also be used by dental students for their fixed prosthodontics course.
The tutorial prepares the students on the cognitive aspect of tooth preparation. Students who used this tutorial were demonstrated to spend less time using Dental Simulation Technology.
